Buzzfeed tasty recipes6/12/2023 ![]() The team observed that one series of videos, which offered eating tips (think: “6 Fruits You’re Eating Wrong”), was doing especially well. ![]() Video viewership was increasing rapidly on Facebook at the time, thanks largely to its rollout of autoplay as a default setting for users’ news feeds. In the summer of 2014, his team was posting lifehacking videos to BuzzFeed Food’s YouTube channel, with the aim of seeing which ones went viral when they were posted to Facebook. Gauthier told me that the site began as an experiment. He’s based in Los Angeles and was in town to plan out Tasty’s next moves. ![]() He apologized for not knowing his way around. Tall and gaunt, he greeted me wearing a sunshine-yellow summer-camp shirt, his blond tresses woven into Heidi braids. To get a sense of how and why the company managed this trick, in March I met with Andrew Gauthier, an executive video producer and the creative brain behind Tasty, at BuzzFeed’s offices in Manhattan. Tasty has done this, counterintuitively, by decoupling itself, to a strong degree, from the BuzzFeed brand. Most of the clips garner hundreds of thousands of likes hundreds, if not thousands, of comments and hundreds of thousands more views on YouTube. Its videos, which are about a minute long, have a simple aesthetic: a combination of stop-motion shots, simple onscreen instructions, and colorful ingredients and cooking tools. That exclamation now punctuates every video produced by Tasty, which has, in less than a year, become BuzzFeed’s most popular page on Facebook, with more than fifty-five million likes. ![]() As the bun landed, a drop of golden yolk slithered onto the plate. "They're going to want to make sure it's safe, they have an obligation to make sure it's safe. ![]() "Of course an employer has a right to protect the workplace," Dougall said. Such legwork has helped to control other infectiousdisease outbreaks, such as syphilis in the United States and Ebola in West Africa. One example is Price Waterhouse Cooper, which is using a contact tracing application in its Shanghai office's reopening. Contact tracers in Florida tell patients to alert people that you have been in close contact with while ill that you have tested positive and tell them to self-isolate for 14 days. Case Investigators and Contact Tracers will collect important information that will help health departments track COVID-19 cases and contacts, monitor how common the disease is, and evaluate the effectiveness of case investigation and contact tracing programs. Traditionally, tracers would ask newly diagnosed patients to list the people they’d spent time with recently, then ask those people to provide contacts of their own. There are also privacy concerns regarding what information employers are seeking from their employees. It can end up in the wrong hands if there's a data breach," Dougall added. "The big concern with gathering all this information, and privacy advocates are right to be worried about this, is that it can be used to harass, it can be used to intimidate, it can chill people's political activity. Any personal information collected is used solely for protecting people close to you and containing the spread of COVID-19. The question becomes one more of practicalities, and how do you get it," he said. "If our health officials have an evidence, science-based reasonable need to gather information, the government is going to have a right to get it. As part of New Yorks contact tracer pilot program, Gov. Dougall acknowledged that there are valid concerns about misuse of data. ![]()

Rhinoceros beetle larvae6/11/2023 ![]() ![]() Some beetles that live in deserts have lost the ability to fly.Īll beetles have jointed legs, but leg shape and size varies, depending on the beetle's lifestyle. Water beetles are good swimmers, and many can fly as well. Most beetles can fly, although they do so in a slow, clumsy manner. Sunburst diving beetles carry a bubble on their rear end that pulls oxygen from the water and helps the beetle stay under just a little longer. Whirligig beetles (Gyrinidae family), which swim on the surface of ponds, have divided eyes: one half for vision under water, the other for seeing above the water so they can find food that drops in or floats by. Beetles that rely on vision for hunting (ground beetles) or breeding (fireflies, Lampyridae family) have larger eyes. Compound eyes are very sensitive to movement and can probably see in color. Most beetles have compound eyes (eyes that are divided into many six-sided compartments). Tiny hairs on its body and legs, called setae, are sensitive to touch, sound, smell, taste, and light. A beetle uses its legs to regularly clean those important antennae. ![]() They also alert the beetle to vibrations in the air that could mean a predator is near. Thick, hardened front wings, called elytra, cover most of the beetle's body and its back wings offer great protection. The beetle's six legs and its wings are attached to these parts. Thorax- The thorax is the powerhouse of the beetle body, divided into three parts. Some horned beetles have extensions on their head that remind scientists of horns or antlers. Head- The head is where the beetle's eyes, mouth, brain, and antennae are found. Many are brilliantly colored, like jewels, while others cleverly blend into their environment.īeetle body parts.
